Another cool video

Sorry to keep posting soccer videos, but this one blew me away.

Are you kidding me, Ronaldinho?

Random sports stuff

In an effort to procrastinate from the work I should be doing, I've decided to post a few random thoughts on sports:
  • I can't fully articulate how disappointed I am that college basketball season is over. And now that the NBA playoffs are upon us, we are inching towards the most dreaded stretch in all of sports....summer. Don't get me wrong, I love summer as much as the next guy, but I find nothing more boring than watching baseball on TV. Really, I even find golf more exciting. It's amazing to me how Sportscenter can go from the best show on TV to the worst in a matter of a day (right after the NBA finals is over).
  • Previous comments aside, I really do enjoy attending baseball games. Most of the time I pay very little attention to what is going on in the game, but I always enjoy hanging out and drinking overpriced, watered down beers. There's something downright American about getting wasted in the bleachers and screaming into the opposing team's bullpen.
  • One year I tried to do fantasy baseball...seriously the most boring and confusing thing I've ever been a part of.
  • While we're on the topic of sports, I will say that one of the best things about medical school is the fact that I can once again participate in intramural sports. We're currently in the middle of soccer season, and once again I am much better at observing what other people are doing wrong than I am at doing those things correctly myself. Nevertheless, I have a great time. Also, I managed to get a yellow card in the first game, which I am strangely proud of.
  • One of the funny things about IM sports is that I get REALLY excited about the games, and I inevitably go out and buy all kinds of equipment. Last week I spent over $100 on a soccer ball, cleats, shin guards, an Adidas soccer jersey, and some socks. And, oh yeah, we have one game left in the season, and then I hang it all up until next March. But it's totally worth it.
  • Finally, the one saving grace for this summer in sports is going to be the World Cup. I love international competition, and the World Cup is just about as exciting as it gets. Here's hoping that the USA will kick some ass, and people will finally care about soccer in this country! It's a beautiful vision, but I wouldn't really put any money on it...

Cadaver Ball!!!

Last night was Cadaver Ball, also fondly known as "Med School Prom." It strikes me that non-medical people might think that Cadaver Ball is an odd name for a spring dance, but it sounds pretty normal to all of us. Maybe that just implies that we're all a bunch of weird people...

In any event, Cadaver Ball rocked. We had a great dinner at Vine in the Va. Highlands before heading to the event itself. It was an open bar, so needless to say we overindulged by at least a little bit. Here are a few highlights in picture form.

First blog post ever...

So...welcome to my first ever blog post. I've finally decided to join the 21st century and give everyone a glimpse into my bizarre little mind. Since I'm a novice to the "blogosphere", this blog will probably have a kind of stream of consciousness feel to it. Readers are likely to be subjected to a series of rambling thoughts and ideas. And of course, if you know me at all, you know that this blog will probably include a lot of "Dad jokes", as Garrett would say...Read at your own risk.
